Discover the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Payroll Operations Manager to lead and manage payroll delivery for our outsourcing business, with a particular focus on operations in China. This role is based in Japan and will serve as a key liaison between our clients, internal teams, and external partners to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing.


Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll operations for clients with employees in China, ensuring compliance with local labor laws and tax regulations
  • Act as the primary point of contact for client escalations and inquiries related to payroll.
  • Monitor and improve payroll processes, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including HR, Finance, and IT to support payroll-related initiatives.
  • Ensure timely reporting and reconciliation of payroll data.
  • Lead audits and ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance standards.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior payroll staff or support teams as needed.

Key Requirements
  • Proven experience in payroll operations, preferably in a multinational or outsourcing environment.
  • Strong understanding of Japan payroll regulations and practices.
  • Fluency in Japanese and English is a must: Mandarin is highly preferred but not mandatory
  • Experience working with payroll systems and vendor management.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills

 

  • Familiarity with payroll software and tools (Bugyo, Money Forward, SAP, etc.)
  • Project management experience in payroll transitions or implementations.
  • Experience in client-facing roles or service delivery.
  • at least 2 years experience in a Japanese Outsourcing firm
  • At least 2 years managerial experience leading a team
