Our Cape Town office is an integral part of TMF’s European delivery teams, collaborating with TMF Germany’s Accounting & Tax Team located in Frankfurt to provide our clients in the sectors Real Estate, Private Equity and Capital Markets with high‑quality cross‑border accounting solutions across a wide range of investment structures.
As Account Payables Accountant, you will play a critical role in supporting the TMF Germany Client Accounting Team which services clients in the markets of Capital Markets, Private Equity and Real Estate (Financial Services). You will be responsible for accurate invoice capture, vendor management, payment execution support, reconciliations, and AP‑related month‑end tasks, while collaborating closely with the German team and the broader SPV accounting function. In collaboration with the Team Leader – Client Accounting Financial Services South Africa, you will support the TMF Germany Client Accounting Team by delivering excellent support to internal and external stakeholders. You will take ownership of your deadlines to meet internal and external client expectations. The role requires exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. You will support complex special purpose vehicles (SPV) structures operating under German GAAP (HGB), IFRS and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Record and process invoices in TMF’s invoice systems (e.g., Medius, Excel) and capture them accurately in ERP systems such as DATEV, SAP or Yardi
- Maintain and verify vendor master data and ensure correct approval flows for invoices and payments
- Monitor bank balances, prepare funding requests and schedule vendor payments via electronic banking
- Track all invoices, approvals and payments to ensure complete documentation and audit accuracy
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders including TMF Germany accounting teams, auditors, clients, banks, tax advisors and legal professionals
- Support month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closing processes, including reconciliations and AP‑related journal postings under HGB and IFRS
- Assist with onboarding of new SPVs, ensuring correct AP‑related data, invoice instructions and documentation
- Provide AP inputs for VAT filings and statistical reports for the German Bundesbank
- Support workflow improvements, accounting system enhancements and automation initiatives that impact AP processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, but candidates with strong accounting skills and practical experience are also encouraged to apply
- 2+ years of experience in accounts payable
- Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including AP workflows, bookkeeping and journal entries
- Exposure to HGB/IFRS or European GAAP is beneficial, with a willingness to learn German accounting and tax requirements
- Strong MS Excel skills and previous experience working with ERP systems
- High attention to detail, strong organisational discipline and reliability in meeting deadlines
- Fluent in English; German language skills highly valued or willingness to learn German
