Discover the Role

As Team Leader for Investment Accounting in Private Equity and Capital Markets, you will play a pivotal role in managing the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of private equity and capital markets investments (Special Purpose Vehicles). This position combines management, technical accounting expertise, collaboration and communication skills. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with HGB, IFRS, German corporate and tax law, supporting investment lifecycle activities such as acquisitions, exits, and restructurings.

 

In Partnership with the Head of Client Accounting you will lead a team of skilled accountants, fostering a high-performance culture focused on quality, efficiency, and continuous personal and professional development. Your role will also involve close interaction with external stakeholders such as asset managers, fund controllers, and senior leadership, as well as external auditors and service providers. You will drive initiatives to automate and standardize accounting processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and support digital transformation within the finance function. 


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of investment accountants focused on private equity and capital markets portfolios.
  • Responsible for ensuring the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with German Commercial Code (HGB) and IFRS
  • Prepare, post and review journal entries ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (HGB / IFRS) focus on fixed and financial assets, equity, accruals and provisions, shareholders and external loans 
  • Integration (on-boarding) of new companies (Special Purpose Vehicles) including review of legal documents (contracts) 
  • Reconcile, analyze, validate and upload financial data
  • Produce ad hoc reports as required by client
  • Manage own and team deliveries
  • Monitor /complete monthly or quarterly VAT returns and Bundesbank reports / statistics
  • Train and develop accounting staff, providing performance feedback and support
  • Delegate tasks for development purposes and provide appropriate support and supervision
  • Aim efficiency, automation and productivity by implementing the best accounting practices and improving the workflows and processes
  • Collaborate and communicate with customers, other departments and team members, banks, auditors, lawyers and tax advisors

Key Requirements
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field: certified accountant (IHK), Steuerfachwirt
  • 5-7 years in investment accounting focused on Private Equity, Real Estate or related fields, ideally with an international outsourcing or tax advisor firm (Client accounting), private equity firm, or asset and investment management firm
  • Experience in the accounting of special purpose vehicles (investment accounting), well-versed and experienced in German Commercial Code (HGB) is a must, IFRS knowledge desirable
  • Familiar with German corporate and tax law
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Fluent in English and German is a must
  • Solution-oriented, high-performance, team-oriented, and service-oriented
  • Proficient in common IT applications for financial accounting (DATEV, Addison, SAP, MS Office),
