Discover the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Risk & Compliance Officer to join our team in Australia. This role is pivotal in promoting and enhancing compliance, risk, and governance across our Australia and New Zealand offices. The successful candidate will serve as the appointed AML/CTF Compliance Officer and MLRO, ensuring adherence to local and group regulatory frameworks, and providing strategic compliance guidance to senior management, service lines, and staff.



Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:


  • Governance & Oversight
    • Serve as the appointed AML/CTF Compliance Officer and MLRO for Australia and New Zealand.
    • Ensure the compliance function remains independent and empowered to challenge and escalate issues.
    • Oversee the implementation and periodic review of the AML/CTF framework, including transaction monitoring and account-level sampling.
  • Regulatory Policy Management
    • Interpret and implement ASIC, AUSTRAC, and APRA guidelines 
    • Maintain and update local compliance policies to ensure jurisdictional relevance.
    • Conduct gap assessments and manage the compliance obligations register 

Risk Management & Change Oversight

  • Implement a risk-based compliance monitoring plan aligned with local regulatory specifics and group standards 
  • Identify emerging compliance risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in regulatory change management projects and advise on new services or client structures 

Client Acceptance & KYC

  • Review and advise on medium and high-risk client files.
  • Act as the local escalation point for KYC/onboarding issues 
  • Ensure proper client risk classification and mandate review completion.

Regulatory Reporting & Liaison

  • Prepare and submit all regulatory filings including AML returns, STRs, license notifications, and annual reports to ASIC, AFSL, APRA 
  • Liaise with external regulators and manage inspections, thematic reviews, and remediation efforts 

Screening & Transaction Monitoring

  • Act as second-level reviewer for escalated screening alerts (PEP, sanctions, adverse media).
  • Oversee transaction assessments and STR filings in line with AML regulations 

Compliance Monitoring & Testing

  • Design and execute the Compliance Monitoring Plan (CMP) for high-risk areas.
  • Conduct thematic testing and sample reviews to ensure adherence to policy standards 

Training & Development

  • Develop and deliver AML/CTF, compliance, and risk training programs for staff 
  • Support awareness initiatives and provide ad-hoc compliance support across teams.

Key Requirements
  • Degree in Business, Accounting, Law, or related fields.
  • ACAMS or ICA certification preferred 
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in compliance and regulatory roles.
  • Strong understanding of Australian regulatory obligations.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
