Discover the Role

A Senior Payroll Specialist acts as a spinal cord for TMF Group's HR&Payroll operations. A successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day payroll processing, social labor insurance processing, as well as coaching and mentoring junior payroll specialists. Depending on your language proficiency, you may also involve yourself in client onboarding, client negotiations, and responding to client inquiries on a regular basis. 


Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains relationship with clients and internal/external stakeholders;
  • Performs daily work with high complexity, including monthly payroll calculations, payroll registers, final payment calculation, data input in payroll system, preparation of employer’s return, preparation of local pension filing, Benefits administration, work permit applications, etc.;
  • Lead or assists in the startup and manage the payroll administration for new clients;
  • Query management with internal and external- 3rd party stakeholders;
  • Assists Assistant Manager / Manager to prepare proposals for clients;
  • Supervises Assistants and/or Executives and reviews draft deliverables;
  • Acts as back-up when Manager and/or Assistant Manager is on leave;
  • Assist in ad hoc projects as assigned.

Key Requirements


  • Over 5 years relevant experience in payroll and social insurance;  
  • Previous experience in sizeable professional firms will be an advantage.
  • Sound experiences in handling local employment regulations, tax practices, pension and other related issues;
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (e.g. Vlookup, IF, Pivot for Excel);
  • Preferred experience with payroll software (e.g. Bugyo, Obic-7, Company and People);
  • Good command in both spoken and written Japanese and English (TOEIC 860 or above); 
  • Pursuing or qualified in Local professional examinations.
